Effects of a Natural Mordenite as Pozzolan Material in the Evolution of Mortar Settings

This paper shows the results of a study focused on evolution and properties mortars made with mixture portland cement (PC) natural mordenite (Mor). To begin, samples mordenite, sand were studied X-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence (XRF) granulometric analysis (GA). Next, ratio 75% PC 25% prepared to determine their initial final setting times, consistency density. Continuing, density, weight compressive strength specimens determined at 2, 7, 28, 90 365 days. Finally, using SEM, XRD XRF. The sample showed complex constitution where major mineral component is lesser degree smectite (montmorillonite), halloysite, illite, mica, quartz, plagioclase feldspar, in addition altered volcanic glass. Tests fresh cement/mordenite mortar (CMM) an time 320 min 420 min, much longer than 212–310 (PCM). It was established that greater PCM. density CMM has lower On other hand, (CMS) (PCS). CMS studies significant increase from 18.2 MPa, 2 days, 72 better PCS 28 respectively. XRD, XRF SEM conducted good development primary secondary tobermorite, latter formed expense portlandite; also, ettringite developed normally. work proves partial replacement by does not have negative effect mechanical CMS. indicates presence inhibits spontaneous hydration C3A controls anomalous formation (Ett). All this, together reported, deep positive influence efficient pozzolan, meaning it can be used manufacture highly resistant pozzolanic cement, low heat, stability extremely aggressive places impact environment.
